Food Watch: Sweet and Sour Sauce

Sweet and Sour Sauce in the store costs too much and isn't always that great. My daughter LOVES Sweet and Sour Chicken. I got sick of buying sweet and sour sauce, so here's what I make, and it's really good!!!

Sweet and Sour Sauce

2 cups water
2/3 cup distilled white vinegar
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (8 ounce) can pineapple tidbits, drained
3 tablespoons cornstarch

In a saucepan, mix all ingredients, let simmer until desired thickness.

I had all the ingredients on hand, so this was terrific.

  1. This sounds like a nice simple sauce. I make a slightly more complicated sweet and sour sauce that's easy to make but really chunky (has onions, peppers, etc). Sometimes it would be nice to have a more smooth version for dipping. Maybe I'll add pineapple to my shopping list for some experimenting.
Thanks Carol for all these wonderful recipes - I have your pudding mix out to try this weekend.

  2. I am so all about easy. lol I'm a fairly okay cook but I never do anything complicated or expensive. This sauce and meal was great and simple.

I'm glad people like the recipes. I hope you like the pudding. I thought it was really delicious.

  3. Made this last night using home canned tomatoes. It was so good. My family loved it and I loved that it was so much easier than my recipe. I won't give that one up but I have found a great alternative.
